This pioneer camera unleashes immersive 180 3D videos, launched with an initial resolution of 2K for videos, an update some time later upgraded to 4K recording.
This camera can do photos and videos, but we found there’s a delay in photos between the capture of each eye. Producing bad results with subjects moving. The video is perfect, with no sync problems.
The light sensitivity is low. This means, the quality is good, but when light starts to be scarce, the produced images are too dark (instead adding lots of noise, which would anyway make the results unusable). The sound quality is correct. There’s a waiting time of 10 seconds at startup to be able to start recording.
There’s no display on the camera itself. So, the only way to frame correctly and see results in real time was the LucidVR App. Unfortunately, they stopped supporting the App and you can’t even download to your smartphone, if you use Android and conserve the APK install file, anyway it won’t connect with the camera. So, you can’t wirelessly connect to your phone or watch in real time the results. But the camera is working anyway with the physical buttons and recording to microSD card.
Another consequence of the abandoned support for the App is that we can’t apply the update which updated the firmware to allow 4K recording (and maybe make the Photos perfectly synced). The picture quality for being 2K is pretty remarkable, so it’s pity we can’t check the camera at the maximum 4K that allows the sensor.
To resume, this camera offers great quality if light is good, but it lacks proper support and updates. Interesting way to record immersive videos if you find it at a good price (and with the update already applied).
