The Lume Pad continues to keep improving with updates every few days. This time we can directly access to the popular Sketchfab service, which currently hosts more than 500k 3D models, including animated models.

LeiaViewer renders a wide pipeline of model formats – including STL, OBJ, FBX, GLB and GLTF – then puts the power to experiment at your command. But now you don’t have to manually download on the device the models you like from Sketchfab. You can browse the published models directly.

Leia Viewer allows not only to watch the models, but also to interact with lighting conditions, rotate in any angle or use different viewing methods. You just have to update Leia Viewer from the LeiaLoft Store.

Real high quality 3D Lenticular prints with last Leia update

Leia is launching 3D Lenticular Prints with last update of LeiaPix (available for Lume Pad and Hydrogen). This update is a Christmas present to us! The new Leia Prints service lets you order high-quality many-view lenticular Prints of the Lightfield images you’ve posted to LeiaPix. They’re available in two sizes: Regular sized Prints are a great present for friends and family, and Large Prints are a fantastic framed piece to put on your wall. Regular is a max size of 8” x 4.5”, and Large is a max size of 16” x 9”, if your images have 16:9 aspect ratio you will use all the size -almost all 3D/4V images people take are 16:9-.

This is the first real alternative for consumer users for making the same high quality lenticular images you may have seen on some places. This is an exciting and wanted feature, but for the moment is only available for USA. We also don’t understand why this feature is available on LeiaPix (actually the largest 3D Photo Community) instead on LeiaPlayer (which is the App to watch all your media content stored on your device), because people will want to print their family/personal 3D/4V photos that usually aren’t posted to the public, there are a lot of masterpieces people publish on LeiaPix, but people will prefer to put on their walls their beloved ones and personal images not published on the community.

The price for 8″ x 4.5″ is only $15 which we think is a reasonable price. For the larger size you will need to be more selective because it is $60, but we don’t think this is expensive, because if you choose a good 3D/4V photo the print at 16″ x 9″ will amaze everybody on your home.

Also, Left & Right images are displayed and transmitted to the two eyes without any overlapping or being filtered by glasses. Therefore, Cinera Edge’s 3D image is much brighter than you’ll find in cinemas. The Pro model you also will have an HDMI input, so you can watch 3D blu-rays (supports frame-packing 3D format from 3D blu-ray players) or connect the PlayStation 3 to play it’s excellent catalog of PS3 Stereoscopic 3D games. Also in Pro you’ll have 5.1 Dolby Digital sound, so you’ll get 3D not only on image but also on sound.

Do you use glasses? No problem, you will not need them! Cinera Edge has a diopter adjustment so that you don’t need to wear glasses when enjoying it. The adjustment range is -8D to +3D. There’s also Inter-Pupillary Distance Adjustment, so you can adjust to your eyes to avoid distortions, but this means it will also allow to slightly increase/decrease 3D effect!

The device comes with gyroscope and other sensors to allow VR. To not speak about any other 2d game or App. Cinera also have a small battery so you can use it outside, battery life is 3 hour. Enough to watch most movies, but should carefully plan if you watch a long movie like Titanic 3D or Lord of The Ring movies.

También hay un ajuste de distancia interpupilar, para que puedas ajustarlo a tus ojos para evitar distorsiones, pero esto también significa que ¡permitirá aumentar o disminuir ligeramente el efecto 3D!

Pero las bondades no se detienen aquí ¡El dispositivo viene con Android! Así que puedes instalar aplicaciones en su memoria interna de 16/32 GB (y puedes añadir más espacio con una tarjeta microSD), y controlar el sistema con un panel táctil integrado, para que puedas disfrutar de Netflix, Disney+, Vudu (¿ves? otra razón para exigir a Vudu y Disney que ofrezcan sus películas en 3D en formato SBS -en lugar de intentar detectar un televisor 3D-), Twitch (podrás ver nuestro canal Stereo 3D), YouTube (por fin, un dispositivo 3D que puede aprovechar el ilimitado contenido 3D de YouTube, y no sólo eso, ¡también puedes ver contenido en 3D de 360/180 grados! El dispositivo viene con giroscopio y otros sensores para poder utilizarlo con RV. Para no hablar de cualquier otro juego o aplicación 2d. Cinera también tiene una pequeña batería para que puedas usarlo en el exterior, la duración de la batería es de 3 horas. Suficiente para ver la mayoría de las películas, pero debes planear cuidadosamente si ves una película larga como Titanic 3D o las películas de El Señor de los Anillos.

The newly announced Snapchat Spectacles 3 feature two cameras, and it’s all designed to allow you to create 3D video that can interpret the depth of your environment. Two HD cameras sit on either side of the front of the glasses, and these are designed to capture depth in the images and video you’re filming directly from your face.

The glasses are designed to be a fashionable device that you can wear day-to-day, but they allow to change the tinted lenses with prescription lenses by providing your eyes correction data on a dedicated website (from only $85 more if not using polarized lenses), so you can convert this 3D camera on your everyday glasses and wear it anywhere. On some cases Spectacles 3 will be cheaper than your actual stylish prescription glasses.

You can make 3D photos using the cameras allowing you to create short GIFs that simulate depth, exactly as that Seene App Snapchat bought years ago, so you can enjoy again this type of 3D photos and share to any friend without 3D screen. You can export the file and then upload it to other social media services.

You can upload the video to your Snapchat and apply a variety of 3D effects directly from your phone within the app. It works in a similar way to existing Snapchat Filters that you apply using the app, but these allow you to create 3D effects in your video. Or you can watch the 3D video using a Cardboard or VR headset, the App allows to upload this VR video to YouTube, so expect some new circular 3D videos on YouTube in the upcoming days.

None of this is visible through the lenses of the glasses though. Those are standard tinted lenses that are ANSI Z80.3 rated, so they’ll protect your eyes from the sun’s rays, but they won’t display augmented reality content.

There are four microphones to pick up audio when you’re filming video, and the glasses comes with 4GB of storage on board. According to Snap, that’ll allow for around 100 videos or 1200 photos onboard before it’ll have to connect to your phone.

Both photos and video from the glasses are circular, and the cameras supply a resolution of 1642 x 1642 for photographs. Videos are filmed at 60 frames per second with a resolution of 1216 x 1216.

In terms of battery, the glasses will be able to record around 70 videos before needing a recharge. Snap has thought of that though and it comes with a charging case that allows you to pump it up with more battery quickly and easily.

Snap says the charging case will recharge the device four times over. One thing to note is that Snap is only offering a leather charging case, so this isn’t set to be the most vegan friendly option for everyone out there.

The glasses come in two different variants called Carbon (that’s black) and Mineral (that’s a pale pink color) but the design is the same for both.

Las gafas están diseñadas para ser unas gafas de sol atractivas que poder usar todos los días, pero permiten cambiar las lentes tintadas por lentes graduadas al proporcionar los datos de corrección de vista en un sitio web dedicado (desde sólo 80€ más si no se usan lentes polarizadas), de modo que esta cámara 3D se puede convertir en tus gafas de a diario y llevarlas a cualquier lugar, sea de día o de noche. En algunos casos pueden salir incluso más baratas que ciertas gafas graduadas de diseño.

As you probably know, Disney is launching its own Video On Demand service, so another big player is going to compete with Netflix (and Vudu, which is offering 3D movies in the USA right now). This service will have the strongest catalog without having to make any agreement because they own Marvel, Pixar, ABC, Fox, and National Geographic among others.

They are the biggest & best 3D content source. Marvel and Disney movies are the king of 3D Blu-ray sales, and almost all their movies are released in their Disney 3D. For that reason, it is so important that 3D is not forgotten in their upcoming streaming service. As streaming services grow, disc sales keeps decreasing. So it could be the case that they stop selling 3D movies (the latest X-Men movie: X-men Dark Phoenix is the first not released in 3D Blu-ray). Maybe there are no new 3DTVs to buy, but all the existing 3DTVs are less than 10 years old so will not be replaced in short term, there are a lot of new 3D projectors and new models still arriving, the number of VR headsets is increasing constantly, and wearing a bulky headset which immerses yourself into a virtual 3D world makes stupid to watch 2d content on it, there are the Lume Pad (and soon our new ProMa 3D tablet), and more Leia and Dimenco holographic 3D screens are coming eventually. It could be a disaster if this new Holographic 3D devices arrive and no new 3D movies are released, whatever the format, although if this is the case maybe companies will abandon 3D to adopt a new Holographic format with 4 or more views like the Lume Pad or Looking Glass.

All the existing 3DTVs are, at most, 10 years old or less, so will not be replaced in short term

Of course, the 3D images will be able to use the same DRM protection as the other 2d versions.

For Disney, it will be cheap to include 3D versions of their movies. The price of subscription will include 4K versions for all movies, and 3D files are not much bigger than 2d files if they use the frame interleaved format. Disney will need to invest only a few hundreds of dollars for a few Terabytes more on their servers. A movie on 3D Blu-ray fits in less than 50 GB, but streaming services use more efficient codecs (they need to, not everyone can receive 50 GB in 2 hours with their internet connections) so the files don’t occupy so much space. If they want, they even can use one single file for both 3D and 2d versions, like the 3D blu-ray format. 2d users will see the file as 2d movie, and 3D users will see the entire 3D version of the file.

Also, as they’re included in subscription, some users could discover movies they were not initially interested to pay for and enjoy them so much that they could be encouraged to buy the 3D Blu-ray. Therefore, this proposal will bring additional revenue and more money to Disney, as it will entice subscribers into buying additional discs for a movie that he/she already watched included on the service. Speaking on my behalf, I will be one of those users buying more discs if they stream 3D movies, as I will use the service to check if the 3D of a movie I still don’t own is worth the money to buy the 3D Blu-ray.

As you see, they didn’t say yes, but also they didn’t say no. If more people ask them to include the movies in 3D, they will see that interest for 3D is still there and could make it a reality to fulfill the demand.

Let’s go, choose your reason to ask Disney for 3D on Disney+ and contact them on their Twitter account, you can use one of the reasons we explained above. Also, don’t forget to mention the country where do you live. Other streaming services only release 3D content on their origin country, not available for the rest of the world (like Netflix and Vudu releasing 3D movies only on the USA, and LaTV best 3D movies locked for French users only), so if you’re not on USA make sure to mention your country, more people from more countries the better.

Como probablemente sepas Disney va a lanzar su propio servicio de vídeo bajo demanda, un nuevo competidor de Netflix (y Vudu, que ya ofrece películas 3D en USA ahora mismo). Son la mayor y mejor fuente de contenido 3D. Las películas de Marvel y Disney son los reyes de las ventas de Blu-ray en 3D y casi todas sus películas se estrenan en su Disney 3D. Por eso es tan importante que el 3D sea tomado en cuenta en su próximo servicio de streaming. A medida que los servicios de streaming crecen, las ventas de discos siguen disminuyendo. Así que podría llegar el caso que dejaran de vender películas en 3D (la última película de X-Men: X-men Fénix Oscura es la primera no lanzada en Blu-ray 3D). Puede que no haya nuevos televisores a la venta, pero todas las TVs 3D existentes tienen menos de 10 años de antigüedad por lo que no serán reemplazadas a corto plazo, hay un montón de nuevos proyectores 3D y siguen llegando nuevos modelos, el número de cascos RV está aumentando constantemente, y usar un aparatoso casco que se sumerge en un mundo 3D virtual para ver contenido 2d sería estúpido, está el Lume Pad (o nuestra nueva tableta 3D ProMa), y más pantallas 3D holográficas de Leia y Dimenco llegarán en algún momento. Podría ser un desastre si estos nuevos dispositivos holográficos 3D llegan y no hay nuevas películas en 3D, cualquiera que sea el formato, aunque si ese es el caso tal vez las empresas abandonen el 3D para adoptar un nuevo formato holográfico con 4 o más vistas como Lume Pad o Looking Glass.

Para Disney será barato incluir versiones en 3D de sus películas. El precio de la suscripción incluye versiones 4K para todas las películas. Si las codifican adecuadamente en el mismo archivo podrán ofrecer la versión 3D y 2d, sin ocupar mucho más espacio en los servidores y ofreciendo resolución completa por ojo a los que la vean en 3D.

Además, al estar incluidos en la suscripción, algunos usuarios podrían descubrir películas de las que no estaban inicialmente interesados en comprar y disfrutarlas tanto que se podrían animar a comprar el Blu-ray 3D. Por lo tanto, esta propuesta aportará ingresos adicionales y más dinero a Disney, ya que animará a algunos suscriptores a comprar discos adicionales para una película que ya han visto incluida en el servicio. Hablando en mi nombre, seré uno de esos usuarios que compran más discos si transmiten películas en 3D, ya que usaré el servicio para comprobar si el 3D de una película que todavía no poseo vale la pena para comprar en blu-ray 3D. Y no voy a suscribirme si van a ofrecer solo versiones 2d de sus películas, ya que preferiré verlas en 3D.

No dijeron que sí, pero tampoco dijeron que no. Si más gente les pide que incluyan las películas en 3D, verán que aún hay interés por el 3D y podrían satisfacer la demanda.

Venga, elige tu razón para pedir 3D en Disney+ y ponte en contacto con ellos en su cuenta de Twitter, puedes usar una de las razones que hemos explicado anteriormente. Tampoco olvides mencionar el país donde vives. Otros servicios de streaming sólo publican contenido en 3D en su país de origen, no disponible para el resto del mundo (como Netflix y Vudu estrenando películas en 3D sólo en EE.UU., y las mejores películas en 3D de LaTV bloqueadas sólo para usuarios franceses), así que si no estás en EE.UU., asegúrate de mencionar tu país, contra más gente de más países, mejor…

Com probablement saps Disney llançarà el seu propi servei de vídeo sota demanda, un nou competidor de Netflix (i Vudu, que ja té pel·lícules en 3D a Estats Units).

Són la major i millor font de contingut 3D. Les pel·lícules de Marvel i Disney són els reis de les vendes de Blu-*ray en 3D i gairebé totes les seves pel·lícules s’estrenen en el seu Disney 3D. Per això és tan important que el 3D sigui tingut en compte en el seu pròxim servei de streaming. A mesura que els serveis de streaming creixen, les vendes de discos continuen disminuint. Així que podria arribar el cas que deixessin de vendre pel·lícules en 3D (l’última pel·lícula de X-Men: X-men Fénix Oscura és la primera que no té Blu-ray 3D). Pot ser que no hi hagi nous televisors a la venda, però totes les TVs 3D existents tenen menys de 10 anys d’antiguitat pel que no seran reemplaçades a curt termini, hi ha un munt de nous projectors 3D i continuen arribant nous models, el nombre de cascos RV està augmentant constantment, i usar un aparatós casc que se submergeix en un món 3D virtual per a veure contingut 2d seria estúpid, està la Lume Pad (i aviat la nostra nova tauleta ProMa), i més pantalles 3D holográficas de Leia i Dimenco arribaran en algun moment. Podria ser un desastre si aquests nous dispositius hologràfics 3D arriben i no hi ha noves pel·lícules en 3D, qualsevol que sigui el format, encara que si aquest és el cas tal vegada les empreses abandonin el 3D per a adoptar un nou format hologràfic amb 4 o més vistes com Lume Pad o Looking Glass.

Per a Disney serà barat incloure versions en 3D de les seves pel·lícules. El preu de la subscripció inclou versions 4K per a totes les pel·lícules. A més, en estar inclosos en la subscripció, alguns usuaris podrien descobrir pel·lícules de les quals no estaven inicialment interessats a comprar i gaudir-les tant que es podrien animar a comprar el Blu-ray 3D. Per tant, aquesta proposta aportarà ingressos addicionals i més diners a Disney, ja que animarà a alguns subscriptors a comprar discos addicionals per a una pel·lícula que ja han vist inclosa en el servei. Parlant en el meu nom, seré un d’aquests usuaris que compren més discos si transmeten pel·lícules en 3D, ja que usaré el servei per a comprovar si el 3D d’una pel·lícula que encara no posseeixo val la pena per a comprar en blu-ray 3D. I no em subscriuré si oferiran només versions 2d de les seves pel·lícules, ja que preferiré veure-les en 3D.

No van dir que sí, però tampoc van dir que no. Si més gent els demana que incloguin les pel·lícules en 3D, veuran que encara hi ha interès pel 3D i podrien satisfer la demanda.

Tria la teva raó per a demanar 3D en Disney+ i posa’t en contacte amb ells en el seu compte de Twitter, pots usar una de les raons que hem explicat anteriorment. Tampoc oblidis esmentar el país on vius. Altres serveis de streaming només publiquen contingut en 3D al seu país d’origen, no disponible per a la resta del món (com Netflix i Vudu estrenant pel·lícules en 3D només als EUA, i les millors pel·lícules en 3D de LaTV bloquejades només per a usuaris francesos), així que si no estàs als EUA, assegura’t d’esmentar el teu país, contra més gent de més països, millor…

As you know there’s a simple way of making 3D photos with any camera. But that doesn’t work for video or when something in the scene moves before you take the second shot. So an obvious solution is to use 2 cameras to work together as a 3D camera. But that is not as easy as it sounds, because you need super precise sync for video or even some photos. Syncing precisely 2 videos is not enough because our brain detects inconsistencies of milliseconds, every one of the 30 frames (or 25, or 60, etc.) per second was shot on a different millisecond on every camera (or sometimes you can be lucky, this is like you put 2 songs of 80bpm to sound together and cross fingers to both beat together).

Since some time there’s an App called Camarada. This App connects 2 smartphones (i.e. your old device and the new one you just buyed) to record every frame perfectly synced. You only have to adjust your 2 devices perfectly horizontal, so there’s no tilt between the 2 images. The App does the rest. It is better than a 3D camera with fixed separation between lenses, you can separate your devices more or less depending of proximity of subjects. The App adjust stereo base if needed to correct too much or too light separation. Light and color correction is applied so the 2 images have similar properties. So it has potential for be the best versatile 3D camera available. Camarada already has been rewarded with 2 prizes on competitions, one of Google.

Currently Camarada is available on Google Play Store for Android devices, allows to make photos and 10 seconds videos. They are seeking funding to develop a version without the 10 second time limit, because is very complex to maintain a critical time sync with a simple Wi-Fi connection. We on Tridimensional are trying to make a custom 3D camera connecting 2 cameras and device sync is a hell, sure, there are devices of $2000 that can do that work, but if an App can solve that without expending more money than the actual cost of the cameras it will be the best money 3D aficionado can pay. And the good news is they already achieved the funding goals. But they need more funds to develop iPhone sync with Android phones (on iOS is a hell to deal with WiFi and Bluetooth limitations, Apps has no direct access to connections). If you want you can contribute (and pay less to get the premium license when finished developing) in their Kickstarter page. iOS version is expected in spring this year and backers get access to beta versions (iPhone and Android).

You can join your device with a friend to record a 3D video (as Camarada allows to save the 3D video on the 2 devices if you want). You can upgrade you smartphone into a 3D camera if you buy a second one if you can afford it (or if you encounter it cheap or second hand). You can use your old device if it’s camera is still fair. There are a lot of possibilities, and developers are planing to be able to join more devices to record 180 or 360 degree 3D videos. As always, 3D videos and photos are viewable con VR headsets (export to VR), 3DTVs (export to SBS or Half SBS), or with that old anaglyph glasses.

Our recommendation is to use two elastic bands so devices doesn’t tilt, or similar home made solution. If you can construct a support that holds devices side by side and one device rotated to the other side so the cameras on each device are nearer to center of support, you can increase or decrease distance easily without worrying about overlapping cameras. Como sabes hay una forma simple de hacer fotos 3D con cualquier cámara. Pero eso no funciona para vídeo ni cuando algo se mueve en la escena antes de que hagas la segunda toma. Una solución obvia es unir 2 cámaras o móviles para que actúen como una cámara 3D. Pero no es tan fácil como suena, necesitas sincronización super precisa para vídeo o incluso algunas fotografías. Sincronizar de forma precisa 2 vídeos no es suficiente porque nuestro cerebro detecta inconsistencias de milisegundos, cada uno de los 30 fotogramas (o 25, 60, etc) por segundo fue tomado en milisegundos diferentes en cada una de las cámaras (a veces puedes tener suerte y que coincidan, es como poner 2 canciones distintas de 80bpm para que suenen simultáneamente y que de la casualidad que el ritmo de los bombos suenen a la vez).

Desde hace algún tiempo hay una App llamada Camarada. Esta App conecta 2 móviles (p. ej. tu viejo móvil y el que acabas de comprar) para capturar cada fotograma perfectamente sincronizado. Tú solo tienes que procurar que los 2 móviles esten horizontales, para que no haya una inclinación distinta en las 2 imágenes. La App hace el resto. Es mejor que una cámara 3D con separación fija entre lentes, puedes separar los dispositivos más o menos dependiendo de la proximidad de los sujetos. La App corrige si es necesario la base estéreo para evitar excesiva o insuficiente separación de las lentes. También se ajusta la iluminación y los colores para que sean similares en los dos ojos. Por tanto esta App tiene el potencial de convertirse en la cámara 3D más versátil disponible. Camarada ya ha obtenido dos premios en competiciones, una de ellas organizada por Google.

Actualmente Camarada está disponible en Google Play Store para dispositivos Android. Permite hacer fotografías y vídeos de 10 segundos. Están buscando financiación para desarrollar una versión sin el límite de 10 segundos, ya que es muy complejo mantener una sincronización de tiempo crítica con una simple conexión Wi-Fi. Aquí en Tridimensional llevamos tiempo intentando crear una cámara 3D personalizada juntando 2 cámaras y la sincronización es un infierno, hay dispositivos que hacen el trabajo, pero cuestan más que las dos cámaras juntas, pero si una App puede hacer el trabajo sin desembolsar grandes sumas de dinero puede ser el mejor dinero que un entusiasta del 3D puede pagar. that can do that work, but if an App can solve that without expending more money than the actual cost of the cameras it will be the best money 3D aficionado can pay. Y la buena noticia es que ya han conseguido el objetivos de financiación, pero necesitan más dinero para hacer posible una sincronización entre un móvil iPhone y uno Android (en iPhone no hay acceso completo a WiFi y mucho menos a Bluetooth, es un infierno intentar evitar esas limitaciones del sistema). Si quieres contribuir (y ahorrar dinero respecto al coste final de la versión premium cuando esté acabada) puedes hacerlo en su página de Kickstarter. La versión iOS se espera para primavera, y los padrinos podrán tener acceso a las versiones beta (tanto para iPhone como para Android).

Puedes juntar tu móvil con el de un amigo para hacer una grabación en 3D (ya que Camarada permite grabar el vídeo en los 2 móviles si quieres). Puedes actualizar tu móvil para convertirlo en cámara 3D si te puedes comprar otro igual o con cámara similar (o si encuentras alguno similar barato o de segunda mano). Puedes usar tu viejo móvil si su cámara aún es decente. Hay muchas posibilidades, y en el futuro hay planeado poder juntar más móviles para grabar en 360 grados 3D. Los resultados también se pueden ver en cascos de Realidad Virtual.

Nosotros recomendamos usar 2 gomas al sujetar los móviles para evitar que uno se incline, o una solución casera similar. Si alguno de nuestros lectores puede montar un soporte en el que puedas colocar los móviles lado a lado y rotados de forma que las cámaras estén más cerca del centro del soporte podrá aumentar o disminuir la separación fácilmente sin preocuparse de solapar las cámaras.
