UPDATE 3: Fake your browser as TV so you get the SBS image instead red and blue anaglyph:
On any chromium based browser install the Youtube for TV plugin then on the url address you want to watch add /tv#/ between youtube.com and watch?
Example: https://www.youtube.com/tv#/watch?v=VRd4XWAnRho It will open the Youtube TV version and allow you to go fullscreen by pressing the key F11 of the keyboard.

UPDATE 2: If you have nvidia 3d vision you can use this tool to open YouTube or Vimeo videos on the free nvidia 3D video player or on Stereoscopic Player. Also remember to download youtube-dl on same folder you unzipped OpenYT3D.

How to Uplad 3D videos to YouTube

3D in the metadata

Some cameras generate videos encoded with the 3D tag in the metadata, and can be uploaded directly to YouTube, so 3D TVs and virtual reality viewers with appropriate players will display the video in 3D.

This is the best and highest quality method. Unfortunately, not many cameras encode this data. Also, sometimes metadata can be lost when editing videos in a program. You could convert to MK3D format, so it will play both for both 2d and 3D users. Unfortunately, YouTube doesn’t recognize MK3D.

And there’s another important thing, native 3D videos on YouTube can be watched in 2d thanks to a button to disable 3D, so it will arrive to regular users without 3D display or glasses, therefore it will have broader distribution, and some of these users without 3D display might be more interested to buy a 3D display in the future. If more and more people watch 3D videos in 2d, they will notice there’s increasing 3D content on YouTube, and 3D not died some time ago, as they were thinking, but is increasing instead.

So, here’s how to add that metadata on a computer, by downloading the appropriate ffmpeg executable for your operating system:

ffmpeg -i input_file.mp4 -aspect 16:9 -c copy -metadata:s:v:0 stereo_mode=1 -y output_file.mp4

To make things easier, we have created a shortcut for Windows so that you don’t have to write code:

1. Download this file: YouTube3DMetadata.zip and decompress on a folder.
2. Copy the 3D videos to which you want to add 3D metadata to the same folder (filenames shouldn’t have spaces).
3. Run the file run.bat, will start adding metadata to all MP4 videos in the folder.
4. When finished, you will have the videos ready for uploading to YouTube in the folder output.

Full-SBS

With Full-SBS Your viewers can also use any smartphone attached to a Cardboard or VR headset and play SBS 3D videos directly without even needing to touch anything, just make sure you upload your SBS videos not squeezed (100% SBS or Full SBS); Some devices will detect automatically between Full SBS and Half SBS. PSVR and PC VR headsets users can play Full-SBS videos without any 3D flag encoded from YouTube too.

It would be a good way to upload to YouTube if it weren’t for the fact that most 3D displays show the image squashed.

half-sbs

With half-sbs you can activate the 3D playback on almost any 3D device (but at a big loss of quality) including 3DTVs without internet or any YouTube App, using an attached set-top-box, game console or smartphone. If you use a 3DTV you have to activate the 3D button, most of 3D devices have a switch to activate the 3D, and assume half-sbs by default (some also support other formats, as column interlaced and above/under).

As conclusion, we, as creators, need to upload your videos twice: one with stereoscopic metadata for best quality for 3DTVs & DLP 3D projectors, and one low quality half-sbs version for other 3D devices, put a link to the other version on description.

– If the video is uploaded with 3D metadata: In the YouTube tags, write yt3d (is the way many people still look for 3D videos from their TVs). Don’t explicitly put in the title that is a 3D video, if you want, put a note on the description saying “(3D can be disabled)“.

– If the video is uploaded in half-sbs put it on the title (since 2d users can’t watch it) : Example: “Shakira in h-sbs 3D“, and in the YouTube tags, write h-sbs and half-sbs.

Don’t forget to specify the tags on YouTube: yt3d for native 3D with the metadata, and h-sbs, half-sbs for half-sbs

Tips for playing 3D videos

When looking for 3D videos on YouTube, remember avoiding videos that say VR trailer or VR 3D trailer, as they’re usually a 2d video repeated two times (something dumb and not needed, as any VR viewer/headset or Cardboard can play any 2d video directly without having to format them for VR).
Try using “, Stereoscopic 3D, SBS 3D, yt3d, or real 3D” words on your search.

• If you are using Anaglyph glasses or a 3DTV or DLP 3D projector: search using the yt3d word (i.e. “Space documentary yt3d“. Note that you can also search lower quality videos searching for SBS 3D and OU 3D/Top-Bottom 3D.
• If you’re using another 3D display that doesn’t support native 3D from Youtube: you need to search using the SBS 3D words (i.e. “Space documentary SBS 3D“). You could also use OU 3D (Over/Under) or Top-Bottom 3D if your device supports it.

If you find a video not looking any good in 3D, you need to check first if the 3D is inverted (put temporaly your glasses upside down, or look for a button for inverting the 3D on your device), if still looks weird it is a fake 3D video: give it immediately a thumb down and write a comment on the video saying: FAKE 3D, so other users will not lose time trying to watch in 3D that video. When browsing 3D videos, suspect videos with bad reviews. If the video was simply inverted just note it on the comments of the video.

Issues with some devices

There are some 3D smartphones that don’t have a way to play 3D videos from YouTube
(nor 3D flagged, nor SBS), ironically the old HTC Evo 3D and LG Optimus 3D still can while newer devices don’t, -some like the Axon, the P11 or the King tablet include a 3D button that only works for SBS videos-, is strange and pity brands does not offer this obvious function. In that cases you could use the browser to use the mobile website of youtube (https://m.youtube.com), then you can use the 3D button to watch in 3D. If browser still shows anaglyph version you have to use a YouTube downloader (as Arktube, NewPipe or a Telegram bot).
Lume Pad correctly detects 3D flag.

If you use a PC with nvidia 3d vision: if you have a 3d vision ready monitor you have only one option: Use PowerDVD 19 or prior (important: it seems old PowerDVD versions like 19 does not play Youtube anymore, and newer versions doesn’t have 3D support for displays, only for VR headsets). PowerDVD detects all these 3D flagged videos and plays them in your 3D monitor instead of anaglyph. For SBS videos, you have to use the secondary button of your mouse above image (while playing the video) and select 3D Source Format and then Side by Side format (or one of the other 3D formats if you watch a video on that format). You can also use a VR headset instead of the monitor.

YouTube is the biggest 3D content source, and every day new 3D content is uploaded

Google introduced another stupid problem; if you’re using the Nintendo 3DS, the official Youtube App will play 3D videos in anaglyph mode instead of using the glasses-free screen from the handheld…. Yes, they suck. But if you use the Nintendo web browser to visit youtube you will play the old yt3d videos in 3D, but in a reduced quality. The browser also allows to play Youtube SBS 3D videos on your 3DS, but with better quality than videos flagged as 3D. If the 3DS is your only 3D device we recommend you to buy a 3D Smartphone. For watching 3D videos directly from YouTube App (or even websites) we recommend the King Tablet (only SBS or TB), while the Lume Pad can indirectly view all 3D formats in Youtube/other websites by sharing the link to LeiaTube.

Subir vídeos 3D a YouTube

3D en los metadatos

Algunas cámaras generan vídeos codificados con la etiqueta 3D en los metadatos, y pueden subirse directamente a YouTube, por lo que los TVs 3D y los visores de realidad virtual con reproductores adecuados mostrarán el vídeo en 3D.

Este es el mejor método, y el de mayor calidad. Por desgracia, no hay muchas cámaras que codifiquen este dato. Además, en ocasiones se pueden perder los metadatos al editar los vídeos en algún programa. Podrías convertir a formato MK3D, con lo que se debería reproducir tanto para usuarios 2d como 3D. Por desgracia, YouTube no reconoce MK3D.

Y hay otra cosa importante, los vídeos nativos en 3D en YouTube se pueden ver en 2d gracias a un botón para desactivar el 3D, por lo que también lo podrán ver usuarios sin pantalla 3D o gafas, por tanto, tendrá mayor distribución, y algunos de estos usuarios sin pantalla 3D podrían estar más interesados en comprar una pantalla 3D en el futuro. Si cada vez más gente ve vídeos 3D en 2d, se dará cuenta de que cada vez hay más contenido 3D en YouTube, y que el 3D no solo no murió hace tiempo, como se pensaba, sino que además cada vez hay más contenido.

Así que, aquí te explicamos cómo añadir esos metadatos en un ordenador, descargando el ejecutable ffmpeg apropiado para tu sistema operativo:

ffmpeg -i input_file.mp4 -aspect 16:9 -c copy -metadata:s:v:0 stereo_mode=1 -y output_file.mp4

Para facilitar las cosas hemos creado un atajo para Windows para que no tengáis que escribir código:

1. Descargar este archivo: YouTube3DMetadata.zip y descomprimirlo en una carpeta.
2. Copia en la misma carpeta los vídeos 3D a los que queréis añadir metadatos 3D (los nombres de los archivos no deberían contener espacios).
3. Ejecuta el archivo run.bat, empezará a añadir los metadatos a todos los vídeos MP4 que haya en la carpeta
4. Cuando haya acabado, tendrás los vídeos listos para subir a YouTube dentro de la carpeta output.

Full-SBS

Con Full-SBS los espectadores pueden usar cualquier smartphone con un Cardboard o visor VR acoplado y reproducir vídeos 3D directamente, solo asegúrate de subir tus vídeos SBS no achatados (100% SBS o Full SBS);
Algunos dispositivos detectarán automáticamente entre Full SBS y Half SBS. Los usuarios de PSVR y PC con visores VR también pueden reproducir vídeos Full-SBS sin ninguna etiqueta 3D codificados desde YouTube. Sería una buena forma de subir a YouTube si no fuera porque la mayoría de pantallas 3D muestran la imagen aplastada.

half-sbs

Con half-sbs puedes activar la reproducción 3D en casi cualquier dispositivo 3D (pero con una gran pérdida de calidad), incluidos los televisores 3D sin Internet ni ninguna aplicación de YouTube, mediante la conexión de un decodificador, una videoconsola o un smartphone. Si usas un 3DTV tienes que activar el botón 3D, la mayoría de los dispositivos 3D tienen un interruptor para activar el 3D, y asumen half-sbs por defecto (algunos también soportan otros formatos, como entrelazado de columnas y arriba/abajo).

Como conclusión, nosotros, como creadores, deberíamos subir los vídeos dos veces: una con metadatos estereoscópicos para obtener la mejor calidad en Televisores 3D y proyectores DLP 3D, y una de baja calidad half-sbs para otros dispositivos 3D. Pon un enlace a la otra versión en la descripción.

– Si el vídeo tiene metadatos 3D: En las etiquetas de YouTube, escribe yt3d (es la forma en que mucha gente sigue buscando vídeos 3D desde sus televisores). No pongas explícitamente en el título que es un vídeo 3D, si quieres, pon una nota en la descripción diciendo que el 3D se puede desactivar.

– Si el vídeo está subido en half-sbs ponlo en el título (ya que los usuarios 2d no pueden verlo): Ejemplo: “Shakira en h-sbs 3D“, y en las etiquetas de YouTube, escribe h-sbs y half-sbs.

No olvides especificar las etiquetas en YouTube: yt3d para 3D nativo con los metadatos, y h-sbs, half-sbs para half-sbs

Consejos para reproducir vídeos en 3D

Al buscar vídeos 3D en YouTube recuerda evitar los que dicen VR trailer o incluso VR 3D trailer, ya que suelen ser un vídeo 2d repetido dos veces (algo tonto e innecesario, puesto que cualquier visor VR y Cardboard pueden reproducir cualquier vídeo 2d directamente sin tener que formatearlos para VR).
En vez de eso, prueba a usar las palabras Stereoscopic 3D, SBS 3D, yt3d, o real 3D en tu búsqueda.

• Si está utilizando gafas anaglifas o un TV 3D o proyector DLP 3D: busca utilizando el término yt3d (p.ej. “Space documentary yt3d“. Ten en cuenta que también puedes buscar videos de menor calidad buscando SBS 3D y OU 3D/Top-Bottom 3D.
• Si estás usando otras pantallas 3D que no soportan 3D nativo de Youtube: necesitas usar los términos SBS 3D en la búsqueda (p.ej. “Space documentary SBS 3D“). También podrías usar OU 3D (Over/Under) o Top-Bottom 3D si tu dispositivo soportara dichos formatos.

Si encuentras un vídeo que se ve raro o no se ve nada bien en 3D, primero cerciórate de que el 3D no esté invertido (ponte un momento las gafas boca abajo o busca en tu dispositivo un botón para invertir el 3D), si aún se ve mal, es un video falso: dale inmediatamente un pulgar hacia abajo y en los comentarios del vídeo escribe: FAKE 3D, para que otros usuarios no pierdan el tiempo tratando de ver en 3D ese vídeo. Si ese vídeo simplemente estaba invertido, coméntalo en los comentarios del vídeo para que otras persona no piensen que es un vídeo falso y puedan cambiar el ajuste para verlo bien.

Problemas con algunos dispositivos

Hay algunos teléfonos inteligentes 3D que no tienen una manera de reproducir vídeos en 3D de YouTube
(ni con marca 3D, ni SBS), irónicamente los viejos HTC Evo 3D y LG Optimus 3D todavía pueden mientras que los dispositivos más nuevos no, -algunos como el Axon, el P11, o la King tablet incluyen un botón 3D que solamente funciona para vídeos SBS-, es extraño y lamentable que las marcas no ofrezcan esta función tan obvia. En esos casos hay que usar un descargador de YouTube (como ClipGrab -recomendado-, Arktube, NewPipe o un bot de Telegram). Lume Pad detecta correctamente cualquier formato 3D.

Si utiliza un PC con nvidia 3d vision: si tiene un monitor preparado para nvidia 3d vision sólo tiene una opción: Usar PowerDVD 19 o anterior (importante: parece que las versiones antiguas de PowerDVD como la 19 ya no reproducen Youtube, y las versiones más nuevas no tienen soporte 3D para pantallas, únicamente para visores VR). PowerDVD detecta todos estos vídeos con etiqueta 3D y los reproduce en su monitor 3D en lugar de anaglifo. Para los vídeos SBS, tiene que utilizar el botón secundario de su ratón encima de la imagen (mientras reproduce el vídeo) y seleccionar 3D Source Format y luego Side by Side format (o uno de los otros formatos 3D si ve un vídeo en ese formato). También puedes utilizar un visor VR en lugar del monitor.

YouTube es la mayor fuente de contenidos 3D, y cada día se suben nuevos contenidos 3D.

Google ha introducido otro problema estúpido: si utilizas la Nintendo 3DS, la aplicación oficial de Youtube reproducirá los vídeos 3D en modo anaglifo en lugar de utilizar la pantalla sin gafas. Esto se soluciona entrando manualmente a YouTube desde el navegador de internet incorporado en la consola.

Ten en cuenta que este último truco podría funcionar en otros dispositivos que aparentemente no funcionan con el 3D nativo de YouTube. Así que ¡inténtalo!

ACTUALITZACIÓ 4: Com pujar en frame-packing per obtenir la màxima qualitat possible (but only viewable on 3DTVs): You should save the videos as Parallel MP4 files. Then download and install FFMPEG. Finally transcode the video and add the required information using the following command:

Fa alguns anys va canviar la forma de pujar vídeos 3D a YouTube així com la forma de mostrar-los en pantalla, des de aquell moment YouTube considera totes les pantalles com 2d, excepte les TV 3D, així que qualsevol altre dispositiu diferent a un televisor rebia una horrible versió en color vermell i blau per veure amb ullleres amb lents anàglifs (aquelles ulleres vermelles i blaves que tant costa deixar en el passat). Va ser un desastre, posat que hi ha moltíssimes mes pantalles 3D a part d’els televisors, incloent mòbils, monitors i consoles de videojocs, i totes elles van començar a mostrar un 3D distorsionat de baixa qualitat en comptes d’utilitzar la pantalla 3D real del dispositiu. Coneixent aquesta situació els creadors de contingut 3D van començar a pujar els seus vídeos 3D en format costat a costat o SBS, sense cap codificació 3D al arxiu, amb lo que YouTube pensa que es un vídeo 2d i no mostra una horrible versió en anàglif. D’aquesta forma en qualsevol pantalla 3D pot activar el 3D al estar veient aquest contingut SBS, ja que pràcticament totes les pantalles suporten SBS i tenen un boto per activar el 3D, amb el que automàticament passen aquella imatge SBS a imatge 3D real. 

Però encara hi ha gent que pensa que els vídeos 3D van ser discontinuats per Google. Al record queden els vídeos amb etiqueta yt3d. YouTube es la major font de contingut 3D, i cada dia es puja mes contingut 3D. Però actualment pràcticament tots els vídeos es pugen en SBS sense cap codificació al arxiu. Així YouTube no activa la visualització en anàglif -encara que si així ho desitges pots continuar pujant vídeos que estiguin codificats com 3D al fitxer, amb lo que els televisors 3D i certs visors de Realitat Virtual amb determinat software podran reproduir-ho, però d’aquesta forma estaràs condemnant sense motiu a milions de persones mes amb pantalles 3D. 

Amb un vídeo en SBS pots activar la visualització en pràcticament qualsevol pantalla 3D, inclòs en televisors sense Internet o sense App de YouTube disponible, simplement reproduint YouTube des de qualsevol reproductor multimèdia, consola o inclòs qualsevol mòbil. En qualsevol televisor 3D hi ha un boto 3D, el qual per defecte suporta imatges SBS (alguns suportaran mes formats, com a dalt/a baix o columnes entrellaçades). Així que SBS es una forma universal de distribuir contingut 3D, incloent imatges o videojocs, també es suportat per les noves  pantalles 3D Holográfiques. Els espectadors també poden inserir qualsevol mòbil a un Cardboard casc RV i reproduir directament els vídeos SBS 3D sense tocar res, tan sols assegurar que els vídeos no estiguin esclafats (100% SBS o Full SBS); La majoria de dispositius detecten automàticament entre Full SBS i Half SBS; però alguns televisors 3D sempre estiren la imatge sense tenir en compte si es Full SBS, però son uns pocs dispositius i hi ha molts mes espectadors amb cascos RV. PSVR i cascos RV per PC també son capaços de reproduir vídeos 3D de YouTube, estiguin codificats com 3D o com SBS. 

SBS es un forma universal de distribuir contingut 3D, incloent imatges o videojocs

Si utilitzes un PC amb nvidia 3d vision: si tens un monitor nvidia 3d vision ready nomes tens una opció: Utilitzar PowerDVD (PCs connectats a un televisor 3D no tenen aquesta limitació, ja que com hem dit anteriorment nomes han de pitjar el boto 3D del televisor). Amb PowerDVD 19 (el 17 ja no funciona amb YouTube, no hem provat la versió 18) i superiors pots transmetre vídeos des de YouTube i Vimeo. PowerDVD detecta tots els vídeos codificats com 3D i com els reprodueix a la teva pantalla en 3D real en comptes d’anàglif. Per els vídeos SBS simplement has de pitjar el boto dret del ratolí (mentre reprodueixes el vídeo) i escollir Formato de origen 3D i després SidebySide (o un d’els altres formats disponibles si es que el vídeo esta en aquest format). Pots buscar des de el propi PowerDVD o enganxar una direcció de YouTube, també pots utilitzar un casc de RV en comptes de la pantalla per veure vídeos en 3D. 

Hi ha alguns mòbils 3D que no tenen la habilitat de reproduir vídeos 3D de YouTube (ni codificats en 3D, ni SBS), irònicament els vells HTC Evo 3D i LG Optimus 3D poden, però cap d’els molts nous mòbils 3D que han sorgit des de llavors -excepte el  ZTE Axon 7 Max– ningú es capaç de realitzar aquesta simple funció, tristament la majoria de posseïdors d’un mòbil 3D nou de trinca lo primer que proven es a buscar un vídeo 3D a YouTube, així que es trist i vergonyós que els fabricants no hagin tingut en compte aquesta possibilitat. En aquests casos s’ha d’utilitzar un descarregador de YouTube  (com Arktube o alguns bots de Telegram). Al Red Hydrogen One a mes has de re anomenar el vídeo descarregat per que el nom del arxiu finalitzi amb _2x1 per Half SBS o amb _fullWidth_2x1 per 100% SBS (amb la imatge sense esclafar), així un arxiu anomenat Asphalt8SBS3Dgameplay.mp4 passarà a anomenar-se Asphalt8SBS3Dgameplay_fullWifth_2x1.mp4, d’aquesta manera Red Player el reconeixerà. Es possible que en una actualització futura això no sigui necessari, ja que la reproducció de vídeos 3D es una funció altament sol·licitada als  forums H4V i a la App destinada a suggeriments del Red Hydrogen: Feedback App. Recorda que pots pujar directament els vídeos H4V del RH1 en format SBS a YouTube, amb lo que altres dispositius podran veure una versió 3D del vídeo hologràfic. 

Google també va introduir un estúpid problema per els posseïdors d’una Nintendo 3DS, La App oficial de YouTube reprodueix els vídeos 3D per ulleres amb lents anàglifs tenint una flamant pantalla 3D sense ulleres… Si, una gran c****. Però si utilitzes el navegador de Nintendo per entrar en YouTube podràs reproduir els vídeos codificats com 3D en qualitat reduïda. el navegador també permet reproduir vídeos SBS 3D, i amb millor qualitat que els vídeos codificats en 3D de YouTube. Si la 3DS es el teu únic dispositiu 3D et recomanem comprar un mòbil 3D 3D. Per reproduir vídeos 3D directament des de la App de YouTube (o de qualsevol pagina web) et recomanem el ZTE Axon 7 Max.

Al buscar vídeos 3D a YouTube recorda evitar els que diuen VR tràiler o inclòs VR 3D tràiler, ja que usualment no son 3D, encara que estiguin en SBS nomes mostren una imatge 2d. Utilitza les paraules “SBS 3D” a l’hora de buscar a YouTube, també pots provar amb “real 3d” o “stereoscopic”. 
Si trobes un vídeo amb fals 3d dona-li al polze cap avall per calcificar-ho negativament i escriu un comentari al vídeo posant: FAKE 3D, així altres usuaris no perdran temps intentant veure en 3d el vídeo. Quan naveguis per llista de vídeos SBS sospita de els que tinguin qualificacions negatives.
