Mufasa

3D: This film was a pleasant surprise. There are countless scenes in which the animals’ heads pop out of the screen, producing a superb sense of depth, in almost every foreground plane the head of an animal is half-inside, half-outside the screen plane. There are more than a few occasions in which animals fly close to the camera, also insects. But only a few fleeting moments of things suddenly going to the eyes. In two moments, there is a transition between two scenes, where the depth of the departing scene blends in and envelops a character in the next scene. It’s a long and emotional effect. There are several epic scenes, that you wouldn’t expect in a Disney movie, at the beginning and at the end of the film, where the 3D makes them more striking and emotional. In short, the 3D adds epicness in some moments, while at other times it creates even more emotional moments. Pick the 3D version, it’s a fabulous experience.

4D E-Motion: With the 4DE system the subwoofer is combined with seat vibration, and in this film and theater there was an energetic LFE sound. The subwoofer were more present than it might seem in this type of film, and instead of annoying, in this case seems to make it more epic (you really feel the roar of the lions inside you). Movement and wind are very well integrated, although the movement quickly goes unnoticed as the film goes on. There are some surprising moments with water impacts, and we say impacts because -unlike with 4DX- instead of light splashes, you really feel the water hitting you. Those moments in Mufasa are much more impactful than they would have been in 4DX. Although in general the 4DX system is moderately superior, there were no impacts on the back, as we are used to in 4DX. However, this film integrates quite well with 4DE, especially for the moments of sudden water impact that are very surprising, even if they are only for a moment, they improve the film considerably.
