This mind-blowing App update is more important than a new 3D camera: Spatialify really upgrades your iPhone with new revolutionary features

Spatialify already was the best app to capture Spatial Photos & Videos and export them to 3D. Now it has been improved so much that it is like purchasing a new 3D camera with features not available before.

Spatialify already was the best app to capture Spatial Photos & Videos and export them to 3D. Now it has been improved so much that it is like purchasing a new 3D camera with features not available before.

It is incredible how much an app can evolve in a few months if the author is passionate about it. The world of 3D has some enthusiasts who are truly heroes, making tools that brands don’t do (and they should). These few developers deserve a lot of sales of their affordable programs, counting that 3D enthusiasts use them a lot.

Now, Wu Tian, updated his Spatialify App with features that really upgrade your device. Suddenly, your iPhone has features not existent before on that or another 3D/Spatial camera.

The earlier update already introduced interesting features. Those included Stabilization at 1080p30fps, useful for recording while in movement, and wigglegram export. But the latest update has introduced hugely important new features. So we felt compelled to write this article.

HDR

Now, HDR is also available for Spatial Photos (and for export to 3D formats). Converting your iPhone into the first 3D/Spatial camera in history capable of doing it directly. No other 3D consumer camera can offer this substantial improvement in image quality.

It is necessary not to confuse this genuine HDR with the false HDR images of the past, which consisted of exaggerated contrast and a very artificial appearance. Real HDR on a real HDR display (like the iPhone display) produces a realistically vivid, natural image.

We have made sample Spatial Photos with HDR for you (viewable in all-its-3D-and-HDR-glory with an Apple Vision Pro). The private Safari web browser supports HEIC files for sure, if you see a HEIC logo, your browser can’t show HEIC files:

If you see a HEIC logo, your browser still doesn't support this Spatial Photo in HEIC format

If your browser can’t show HEIC files, don’t worry. We have the same image converted (by Spatialify) to the obsolete JPEG format, but with HDR (your browser may not support HDR).

Open this image at full screen, to see HDR Gain Maps. You can also try this link.

Fortunately, the iPhone’s HDR format generates Gain Maps to improve visualization on non-HDR displays. No matter the computer or mobile device you use to watch them. They will not be as stunning as the real thing, of course, but they will look better than regular photos.

Of course, compatibility with Spatial and HDR images will improve in time, on browsers and on other photography programs. But for the moment, you can view and share HDR 3D photos on Zonerama. We recommend a privacy-friendly chrome-based browser like Vivaldi or Brave, instead of giving away our personal information to Google Chrome.

Live Photos

Live Photo extracted from Spatial Photo with Lively

Now, when capturing 3D/Spatial photos, you don’t have to sacrifice other features of the default’s camera. Your Spatial images will also have Live Photos, which opens creative possibilities. You can get long exposure shots from a regular take, or change the captured instant by another slightly before or after. And you can extract animated images with Lively without modifying the original image.

Another creative idea is to make stereo pairs of Spatial Photos. This way, you will have the same subject with two convergence settings. You will also have two Live Photos. These 2 Live Photos have the potential to allow you to make things like long exposure stereo pairs. For example, imagine a cascade or another water flow in 3D. You can get at the same time a regular instant 3D Photo, and long exposure with another stereo base.

Extracting the animated images is another use case. This is possible if the subject’s movement repeats. It can be used for making a short 3D video. Enough for inserting a short clip in the production of a longer 3D video.

Portrait Depth

But there’s more; now your Spatial images will incorporate depth maps! Yes, added to 3D and movement, there’s also a depth map! This opens another world of possibilities, especially in the area of post-editing. You can modify illumination and/or add virtual lights with apps like Apollo or Focos. Or you can do other magic tricks using any depth-aware program on a computer.

We have put a virtual light between the two characters. Observe the realistic and precise shadows that are cast in all directions according to the position of the virtual light. Thanks to the depth map, you may also make a 3D version of this edit with Stereo Photo Maker.

Spatial Audio

Now you can record Spatial Video with Spatial Audio! You can opt to capture 4-channel first-order ambisonics Spatial Audio. Your 3D videos are even more 3D with 3D audio.

Other Useful Functions

  • Nos is possible to open the Spatialify camera without needing to unlock your device first. This ability can be used with the Camera Control button, the Action Button, or with a button on the Lock Screen.
  • You can also use Camera Control to adjust exposure.
  • You can batch export Spatial images to wigglegram:
Wigglegram with interpolated frames. Of course, you can deactivate interpolation and the Spatialify watermark
You can customize wigglegram options
  • There’s an older but unknown feature that is the ability to control Spatialify with a Bluetooth controller (i.e., a remote shutter button), so we remind it here because it is a very useful feature for certain scenarios.
  • Do not forget about the possibility to record at 60fps for recording fast action subjects like pets and children, concerts, sports, etc.

How to View the Spatial Photos & Videos?

You can view them right on your iPhone with our iPhone Spatial Display. In addition, Spatialify allows you to export Spatial to other 3D formats, so you can watch them on any 3D display (or anaglyph glasses) you have.

And remember the other devices besides the Vision Pro to watch Spatial photos & videos: Pico 4 Ultra (which can also record them), Quest 3, and the Xreal glasses.

These have been fast examples taken in a second thanks to Spatialify, this exemplifies the power in your hands. Don’t hesitate to support the developer for its great work.

The new possibilities and added information open a huge new world of amazing quality and editing possibilities.

Spatialify functions on iPhone models that can capture Spatial Video. These models include 15 Pro / Max, 16, and 16 Pro / Max. For other models, you can anyway capture 3D photos & videos with i3DMovieCam.

With all these features, this update introduces more features than all the new 3D cameras presented this year.

When we said 2 years ago that the iPhone was already the best 3D device, we didn’t dream that it will even improve so much! And that without counting the iPhone Spatial Display!

Ooh!
